January 2010

Hello Friends and Family,

We hope that you have been healthy and happy this past year. We continue to feel very blessed and we'd like to share the highlights with you. At least look at the photos, because Patty took a photography class this year and she's pretty proud of the ones she took!

Mike has now been at NASA for 20 years and he is currently a deputy project manager for Exploration Life Support, which means he is working to develop air, water and waste recycling technologies for longer, future space missions. He is also trying to get NASA to do more with renewable energy at their facilities. Outside of work he stays busy around the house and with volunteer positions in the Houston Renewable Energy Group and Engineers without Borders.

This August, Patty and Mike celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a trip to Niagara Falls. The views were spectacular, but they were sad to find out that they no longer offer barrel rides over the Falls so they had to settle for a trip on the Maid of the Mist.

Patty is thankful to be continuing with her current position at Clear Lake Family Physicians. She also still works part time as a supervising physician at the CHRISTUS clinic at the Kemah Walmart. She still volunteers with Girl Scouts but in a much smaller capacity and donates her time as a band chaperone for Allen. She has put a lot of time into fixing up the house this fall - mostly painting and recovering furniture - so stop by and take a peek.

This summer Patty and Allen helped Andy move to his new home in Los Angeles. He has found a nice apartment and a good roommate near Thai Town. It turns out that there are several graduates of UT Film school living very near him so they have nicknamed the area "Little Texas." He spent a short time working on a film called Inception which should come out this summer. He is now very lucky to have landed a job as a production assistant on Transformers 3, and he hopes this will give him steady work for several months.

Megan is loving going to school in Austin. She is doing well as a sophomore photo-communications major at St. Edward's University. When she isn't engrossed in her projects you can find her dancing with her friends at Midnight Rodeo, and so she is developing a taste for country music. This past summer and Christmas vacation she has also been working at Clear Lake Family Physicians with her mom. But she has no desire to go into medicine - she's seen the dark side.

Allen is a junior at Clear Lake High School and this year he is playing tenor sax in the band. He is quite handy with power tools and his projects for the year have included custom car speakers, helping to repair our fence from Ike damage, and building a TV stand. He also got his license this year (finally) but his parents aren't imposing on him too much for errands.

As a family, we took a cruise to the Bahamas this year for spring break. We all got adventurous and did some beginner scuba diving. The cruise itself was a lot of fun, but the Bahamas visit was a bust - not only did it rain on us, but Andy got hit by a GIANT wave and broke his shoulder. Hopefully this won't be the last vacation we take as a family, but it will be more difficult now that our family has spread across the country.

When we say "big wave," we mean "BIG WAVE."

God bless you and your families and friends in 2010!

Love,
Patty, Mike, Andy, Megan and Allen Ewert
