January 2013
Hello to our dear friends and family,
It seems we survived the end of the world on 12/21/2012. Or, as Mike says, maybe the world did end and we just woke up in another universe. Assuming you have all traveled with us to that new universe, heres just a quick update from 2012 with a few pictures.

As for me (Patty), nothing has changed. I still work at the same place(s) and I didnt take any big trips. But I have been enjoying having Megan home so Ill move on to her.
Meggy graduated from St. Edwards University with a BA in Photocommunications. She has temporarily moved home and has been working to save up to participate in a post-graduate program to live and work in Ireland for a year. If all goes well, she will fly out on March 1st for her new adventure.

Megan Ewert, college graduate!

Allen is a sophomore engineering student at UT-Dallas and still doing well. This year he has joined his school biking club (thats the kind you pedal, not the Hells Angels sort). Also, to the delight of his familys taste buds, he has taken up homemade bread baking. Soooooo delicious!

Allen and Kathy cool off on a hot Texas day with a homemade beach in the back of a Ford pickup.

Andys current project is Star Trek Into Darkness. This year, Lucasfilm was purchased by Disney, so he is officially working for The Mouse. No telling what actual changes will occur due to the sale. Andy enjoyed a much-needed vacation with some friends in Hawaii, and has volunteered to go back and take me whenever Im ready.

Patty and Andy take in a Giants game in San Francisco.

Andy and his travel buddies enjoy a Hawaiian sunset lu'au.

The climate on the Big Island of Hawaii ranged from tropical at sea level...

...to freezing at the Mauna Kea mountaintop observatory.
Most of you probably are familiar with Mikes work on the battery-free solar refrigerator that he co-invented a while back. It has been sold commercially and used for a variety of purposes including vaccine storage in remote areas. Because of this, he was considered for and won NASAs Inventor of the Year Award.

Mike accepts NASA's Inventor of the Year Award.

With friends at Mike's 30th high school reunion.

If you stand on one foot and squint hard you might
just see the Space Shuttle floating into Clear Lake behind us...
Overall, we feel very blessed and we look forward to hearing from all of you!
Love,
Megan, Allen, Andy, Mike & Patty
